FFI is approved to produce the 11th annual summer film camp, in partnership with The Coral Gables Art Cinema. Students will be given the option to attend in-person or online via ZOOM. FFI’s Summer Film Camp is a six week intense filmmaking program that will take place from June 21, 2021 – July 30, 2021 at the Coral Gables Art Cinema, located at 260 Aragon Avenue in Coral Gables. FFI will give up to 25 high school students ages 13 to 18 the opportunity to focus on essential and practical aspects of commercial motion picture production, including script preparation, cinematography, lighting, sound recording, directing, editing, acting and music. The program will feature instruction by South Florida Film Industry professionals.

FFI transitioned to a virtual program in March 2020 when the quarantine began- and amazingly, the mobile creators platform was a huge success as well as this past summer film. Currently, the film created last summer, REALITY CHECK, is doing great on the film fest circuit.

FFI and the theatre has created a safe environment for staff & students to attend in-person. The camp will meet on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 1pm. All CDC guidelines and protocols will be in place. All FFI staff have been fully vaccinated for Covid 19. Face masks and temperature for all staff/students will be required before entry into the theater. In the event that a student (or family member) tests positive for the virus we will adhere to the CDC guidelines. Therefore, all in-person students must be ready to go online if we need to quarantine.

All students will be required to have specific technical requirements in place (see below for more info).

For those not comfortable attending in-person we are offering students an option to attend camp online simultaneously with our students who are on-site @ CGAC during camp hours. There will be short breaks in between each hour. All students will be using their own devices to create projects, mainly smartphones which are vastly becoming a dynamic tool in filmmaking. This will be an interactive, educational and exciting program that provides a new way to develop and create film projects!

PLEASE NOTE there are virtual requirements needed by each camp participant:

  • Internet Service: Stable signal: 25 Mbps (Adequate), 100+ Mbps (Good)
  • Home computer: Zoom meetings and Production Work (iOS 11.1 +, Windows 10/NT +)
  • Smart Phone: Apple with iOS 11.1 or higher, or “most” Android 6.0 or newer platforms
  • Additional Equipment: Cameras, Editing software, filmmaking tools, etc.

The fee for the 2021 summer film camp is $725 plus a $50.00 reg. fee – total of $775.00.
The price is the same for either option (in-person or virtual).

AND – at no additional cost FFI will be providing high end filmmaking software to each student that can be downloaded –  and they will have permanent access to these online tools even after the camp program is over.

Food is not provided, students will need to bring their own drink/snack/lunch. Assigned and socially-distanced seating will be in place at the theater for the duration of camp.

Interested students need to fill out a required registration form and then a phone interview will be set up with the parent and also the student. FFI is offering a limited number of full scholarships to students in need of financial assistance (SCHOLARSHIPS ARE FOR MIAMI-DADE RESIDENTS ONLY). In order to apply for the scholarship you will need to email us the following information:

Please be advised that scholarship recipients are required to attend every  in-person OR virtual session for the full 6 weeks. If you are unable to commit to the camp schedule (June 21- July 30) then please do not apply for a scholarship.
