A Message From Stephanie Martino

Hello Everyone!

Wow, how time has flown by this school year. We have accomplished so much this in such little time… and we couldn’t be prouder of our amazing student filmmakers! Thanks so much to everyone for their support and excitement this year. It has been quite a journey and FFI is thrilled to continue the creative adventures this summer and fall.

I would like to thank our sponsors, The Children’s Trust, Miami Dade County Cultural Affairs Council, The Miami Foundation, The State of Florida, Miami Dade County Public Schools, The Knight Foundation, Little Haiti Cultural Center, Coral Gables Art Cinema, Garnet Productions, Inc., and VideoLab Solutions, Inc.

Stay tuned for many more announcements about our film festival submissions and CINEMA program details for the 2012-2013 school year!

Hope all of you enjoy your summer!

CINEMA SCREENING / CERTIFICATES OF MERIT

Thanks to everyone who came to our CINEMA screening on June 2nd at The Coral Gables Art Cinema! It was awesome to see the films on the big screen! This is the first year we have had the films judged by local industry professionals and given out certificates of merit for artistic achievement.

We would like to thank our judges Lilia Garcia, Barry Gordon, Carl Kesser, Susan Schein, Franceasca Seiden and Ellen Wedner. Congrats to all of the filmmakers!

SUMMER FILM CAMP

Our second annual film camp for teens started on Monday, June 18th and will run thru July 25th at The Coral Gables Art Cinema. We have filled up the roster and are very excited to meet the new and talented student filmmakers! It will be interesting and fun to see what kind of genre they decide to choose for their film!

ANA GRADUATING

We would like to congratulate one of our staff members, Ana M. Alba, on her graduation from the University of Miami; she has been a huge asset to our organization for the past three years. Ana was our data tracker manager and she has done a great job with keeping us organized with our students and all of their info. Congrats Ana, we wish you the best of luck with your future endeavors!

FACEBOOK DISCUSSION

We want to hear from you! Please check out FFI’s Facebook Page and stay updated with what is new and upcoming with our award winning film programs. But also, while you are there we encourage you to start posting some of your own thoughts and ideas about filmmaking- perhaps, what is your favorite film and why? or what programs you would like FFI to consider producing in the future? It would be great to get a dialogue going between our FB page and our many fans!

Watch FFI on “You Tube”

You can now view the wonderful films made by our students online anytime you want. As a matter of fact we encourage it. The films are actually an ongoing anthology of the attitudes of the young people who make them, acting as a mirror of their environment, concerns and problems. Every film is compelling in its own way and some have won awards at film festivals across the country.

You’ll find us at: www.youtube.com/flfilm
See you there!
