SUMMER CAMP!

Florida Film Institute (FFI) is excited to announce a summer partnership with the Coral Gables Cinemateque (CGC). CINEMA, a film education summer camp will be held at the CGC’s Coral Gables Art Cinema, located at 260 Aragon Avenue in Coral Gables, from June 18 to July 25. Up to 20 high school students are invited to attend the workshops that meet on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 10:00a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Beginning this summer, FFI will give students the opportunity to focus on essential and practical aspects of commercial motion picture production, including script preparation, cinematography, lighting, sound recording, directing, acting and music. The program will feature instruction by South Florida Film Industry professionals, and will also include a beginners Yoga class for students. At the end of the session, participants will showcase their film at the theatre.

The Coral Gables Art Cinema is a project of the Coral Gables Cinemateque, Inc., a non-profit film arts organization. The Cinema, which opened in October of 2010, has a16/35mm and industry-standard theatrical quality digital projection with 141 stadium-configured seats. The Cinema offers one of the best venues for appreciating alternative film in South Florida. It operates year-round, seven-days-a-week, presenting high quality American independent, foreign and classic films that are not generally available at other theaters in South Florida. The programs are vibrant, diverse, multicultural and multilingual. In addition to film screenings, the Cinema is a cultural hub for filmmakers, other artists and the public, with live performances, great food and drinks, sidebar events and educational activities. The Cinema receives major operating support from Bacardi, the City of Coral Gables, the Coral Gables Community Foundation; Magnatech Electronics Company; Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners; and additional contributions from many individuals and businesses. The Florida Film Institute (FFI) was established to provide students and adults with a nurturing and hands-on environment in the field of Media Arts. Since its inception in 1992, FFI has mentored over 6,320 middle and high school students from Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. FFI strives to provide a nurturing environment to teach the art, business and science of filmmaking, so that the participants may have the confidence and experience necessary to consider it as a viable career path.
