The following guidelines and templates can be used to help in the design of posters for display on the website and various Social Media platforms.
Minimum dimensions and x2 sizes are listed for both website and Social Media images. The minimum is fine. Max sizes are included as many online platforms are allowing larger images to be uploaded to enhance quality.
One of the most important design aspects is to keep any/all important text and images within the ‘live area’ as these elements shouldn’t be too close to the edge of the page. This is best practice for both web and print images.
Click on the template images for a larger view and/or right-click ‘save image as’ on Windows or ctrl-click on Mac ‘save image as’ to download/save the images to use as a template within an image editing program.

- keep text within 9 x 15 in. ‘live area’
- PDF / Press Quality PDF or PNG (Non-Interlaced)
- 300dpi / CMYK Mode
- Minimum of .25″ bleed on all sides
*This design should be resized for the FFI Website as the size ratio is slightly wider. See specs below.
With your 11 x 17 in. poster open in photoshop select Image > Duplicate… which will create a duplicate file and allow you to give it a name… for example ‘ffi_poster_website’. Now you can choose Image > Canvas Size and enter the pixel dimensions of the Website Poster, 1,200 x 1,600 pixels (see specs below). As the new image size is slightly wider than the printed poster you’ll need to adjust any background colors, photos and/or design elements to fill the entire space.
